The PLB Series is Auvolar's aesthetic shoebox LED area light designed specifically for commercial plazas, retail centers, and mixed-use developments where fixture appearance matters as much as performance. Available in Bronze, Black, and White finishes to coordinate with architectural elements, the PLB delivers up to 180 lm/W @4000K (IES verified) across six wattage configurations from 75W to 300W. Two DIP switch tiers — 150W (75/100/150W) and 300W (200/250/300W) — plus field-selectable 3000K/4000K/5000K CCT let property managers and designers fine-tune both light level and color ambiance without returning fixtures. Full-cutoff optics achieve BUG U0 (zero uplight) on every configuration, satisfying Dark Sky ordinances increasingly required in mixed-use zoning districts.

Why PLB for Commercial

PLB Advantages for Plazas & Retail Centers

Commercial properties need more than lumens. They need fixtures that enhance the property's visual identity, satisfy tenants, comply with municipal codes, and deliver ROI.

🎨 Architectural Color Matching

Bronze, Black, and White finishes let you match poles, building facades, and site furniture. Bronze is the top choice for upscale retail and earth-toned developments. Black disappears against dark poles. White suits modern and healthcare campuses.

🌡️ DIP CCT for Brand Ambiance

3000K warm white for luxury retail — flatters storefronts and creates an inviting evening atmosphere. 4000K neutral for general commercial — balanced visibility and comfort. 5000K daylight for big-box retail and warehouse clubs — maximum visual acuity for large lots.

🌙 Dark Sky U0 for Mixed-Use

Mixed-use developments with residential above retail face strict Dark Sky and light trespass ordinances. PLB's full-cutoff housing produces exactly 0.00 lm above horizontal (U0), eliminating uplight complaints and code violations.

⚡ Zoned Wattage via DIP

75–150W for walkways, building entries, and small courtyards. 200–300W for main parking areas and large plazas. One purchase order, two DIP tiers — each adjustable in the field without returns or rewiring.

What We Hear

4 Commercial Lighting Problems PLB Eliminates

“Our tenants complained the 5000K lights made the plaza feel like a warehouse. We had to replace 40 fixtures with 3000K — $12,000 in restocking fees plus two weeks of disruption during the holiday shopping season.”

— Property Manager, 180,000 ft² retail plaza, Scottsdale AZ

✅ PLB Fix: DIP switch from 5000K to 3000K in the field. 5 minutes per fixture, $0 cost, zero restocking.

“The developer insisted on bronze fixtures to match the building facade. Our supplier only had black in stock. We waited 8 weeks for a custom color order and nearly missed the certificate of occupancy deadline.”

— Architect, mixed-use development, Denver CO

✅ PLB Fix: Bronze, Black, and White are standard finishes — not custom orders. In stock, same lead time as any color.

“We have an outdoor dining area next to the main parking lot. The dining area needs warm, low-level light and the lot needs bright coverage. Two completely different fixtures, two POs, two installation crews.”

— Retailer / Restaurant Operator, Austin TX

✅ PLB Fix: Same fixture, different settings. 75W @3000K for the dining patio, 250W @4000K for the lot. One PO, one fixture style, cohesive appearance across the entire property.

“The property owner wants to hit 60% energy reduction vs the existing metal halide to qualify for the PACE financing program. The 150 lm/W fixtures we quoted only get to 52%. Project stalled.”

— ESCO Project Manager, Los Angeles CA

✅ PLB Fix: At up to 180 lm/W @4000K, PLB delivers 75%+ energy reduction vs 400W metal halide. Easily exceeds PACE, DLC, and utility rebate thresholds.

Source: IES files and LM-79-19 reports. @4000K actually delivers higher lumens and efficacy than @5000K on the PLB Series due to phosphor optimization.

Why 4000K outperforms 5000K on PLB

The PLB Series phosphor blend is optimized for the 4000K color point, resulting in higher lumens at 4000K than at 5000K across all wattages. This is unusual in the industry (most fixtures lose lumens at warmer CCTs) and means retail plaza designers get the best of both worlds: the most pleasing neutral-white color temperature andpeak photometric performance.

Design Standards

IES RP-20 & RP-33 — Commercial Property Lighting Standards

Commercial plazas must satisfy two IES recommended practices: RP-20 for parking areas and RP-33 for exterior building illumination. PLB covers both with its range of wattages and optic types.

DIP Switch Guide — Wattage & CCT Selection

The PLB Series uses DIP switches for both wattage and CCT selection — the key feature that eliminates returns, reorders, and project delays on commercial properties.

⚡ Wattage DIP Tiers

  1. 1Open driver compartment (tool-free quarter-turn latches)
  2. 2Locate wattage DIP switch block on the driver
  3. 3Flip to target wattage — fixture adjusts immediately

Two tiers cover 6 wattages:

Photometrics

Type III, IV, V — Optics for Every Plaza Zone

Commercial plazas have diverse zones — main lots, walkways, building perimeters, intersections. PLB offers three IES distribution types to optimize coverage for each zone.

Type III

Perimeter & Walkways

Forward throw with minimal backlight. Ideal for building-side poles and perimeter positions adjacent to property lines or residential areas.

Type IV

Main Parking Areas

Wide asymmetric forward throw. The workhorse optic for parking lot interiors. Optimal at 3–4× mounting height spacing.

Type V

Plazas & Intersections

Symmetric 360° distribution. Use at central plazas, courtyard areas, drive aisle intersections, and pedestrian gathering spaces.

✓ Zero uplight confirmed — all wattages, all optic types

Every PLB IES file confirms 0.00 lm in the 90–180° zone (BUG U0). The full-cutoff die-cast aluminum housing prevents any light emission above horizontal — critical for mixed-use developments where residential units sit above retail spaces and Dark Sky compliance is typically a condition of approval.

Frequently Asked

PLB Commercial Plaza Lighting — FAQ

What color finishes are available for the PLB Series shoebox light?

The PLB Series is available in Bronze, Black, and White finishes. Bronze is the most popular for upscale retail plazas and mixed-use developments because it coordinates with earth-toned architectural elements. Black blends with dark pole finishes. White is preferred for modern retail centers and healthcare campuses. All three finishes are powder-coated for UV and corrosion resistance.

How does DIP CCT selection help retail plaza lighting design?

The PLB Series has a DIP switch to select 3000K, 4000K, or 5000K color temperature in the field. For luxury retail, 3000K warm white creates an inviting ambiance that flatters storefronts and enhances perceived property value. For general commercial plazas, 4000K neutral white balances visibility with comfort. For big-box retail and warehouse clubs, 5000K daylight maximizes visual acuity. One SKU covers all three scenarios — no reorders, no restock fees.

Does the PLB Series meet IES RP-20 and RP-33 standards for commercial properties?

Yes. The PLB Series meets IES RP-20-14 requirements for parking facilities (1.0 fc enhanced security for open lots) and IES RP-33 standards for exterior illumination of commercial properties. With Type III, IV, and V optics plus U0 uplight rating, the PLB provides uniform coverage that satisfies both safety requirements and architectural aesthetics. The full-cutoff housing also meets Dark Sky ordinances common in mixed-use zoning.

Which PLB wattage should I use for walkways vs main parking areas?

For pedestrian walkways, building entries, and small courtyards, use the 150W DIP tier set to 75W or 100W — this provides 12,594–16,068 lm with excellent uniformity at typical 12–15 ft mounting heights. For main parking areas and large plazas, use the 300W DIP tier at 200W or 250W — delivering 32,806–38,830 lm for wider spacing at 25–30 ft mounting heights. DIP selection means you can adjust after installation if light levels need fine-tuning.

Does the PLB Series qualify for DLC rebates and Title 24 compliance?

Yes. The PLB Series is DLC qualified, making it eligible for utility rebates of $50–200 per fixture from most US utility programs. At up to 180 lm/W @4000K, it significantly exceeds DLC Premium thresholds. For California Title 24 §140.7, the PLB Series at any wattage keeps lighting power density well under the 0.14 W/ft² exterior limit, and its 0-10V dimming capability satisfies mandatory dimming control requirements.
